Governors
The Headteacher is responsible for the day to day management of the school and the school team but Governors deal with a variety of personnel matters, buildings, maintenance, pupil discipline and the general conduct of the school when appropriate.
They work closely with the Headteacher and staff to develop strategy and policies.and also to monitor the schools progress against our improvement priorities. They have a variey of roles and legal responsibilities within the school including:
- Ensuring that the National Curriculum is taught
- Ensuring the school meets its legal responsibilities for Child Protection, Health & Safety etc
- Providing strategic development for the school
- Approving the school budget
- Ensuring that recommendations in inspection reports are implemented
- Acting as a ‘critical friend’ to the Headteacher
- Ensuring accountability
The full Governing Body meets twice a term and individual members visit the school regularly to develop links with the staff and children.

One Foundation Governor is appointed by the St. Nicholas PCC and one by the Diocese with the Priest-in-Charge being ex-officio thereby reflecting our status as a Church of England school.
Community Governors are appointed by the Governing Body to represent the interests of the community.
Local Authority Governors are appointed by the local authority but often rely on the Governing Body to recommend someone who is willing to take on the role.
Staff Governors are elected from staff employed at the school.
Although there are different categories of Governors, some elected and some appointed they all have the same responsibilities, and they all agree that their main priority is the education and welfare of the children attending the school. They all serve a term of 4 years except The Headteacher & Priest-in-Charge.
If you would like to know more about the work of the Governing Body or are interested in becoming a School Governor please contact the Clerk to the Governors Mrs Karen Orwell at the school.
